HARRIS PATIENTS CREATE QUILT A former Mental Health Specialist, Angie Hunter, who is very creative and artistic, worked with the ladies on "H" Lodge using art as a vehicle for these patients to express themselves. This greatly reinforces their sense of self-worth. Ms. Hunter encouraged the ladies to draw and color anything they would like using a beach scene theme. As a result, a beautiful quilt has been completed and is a lovely wall hanging over the sitting area on "H" Lodge. It is a cohesive piece of artwork of sailboats, fish, shells, palm trees, sunshine, butterflies, lighthouses, birds pelicans, etc. The patients get much positive feedback from staff and visitors for their hard work. This is one of the many ways our residents are allowed to develop a sense of belonging and identity by becoming creative, more communicative and more aware of the world around them. |

Saints Alive Senior Singers Nominated as Volunteers of the Year
Sandra Jamison, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital
The third Tuesday of each month is a special day for Harris Hospital patients, thanks to a very special group of seniors who come to sing and share. The Saints Alive Senior Singers is a group of 35 singers who are very, “young in heart and spirit.”
The Singers' average age is 76 with 20 members over 80 years old. They represent 23 different churches and seven different denominations. In addition to their vocal talents, on member is a harpist, two are pianists, and one tells jokes! They sing solos, duets, quartets, and also have devotion time, always encouraging the patients to take part and sing along.
The Saints Alive Singers have been bringing joy to many nursing homes in the Upstate for many years, and Harris Hospital is fortunate to be on their calendar. They have been coming faithfully monthly for two years now to share their love and music and make life better for the patients.
