Admission
Aftercare
The admission process to HPH begins with assessment by a physician working with the Community Mental Health Center (MHC) or Emergency Room and a screening by a hospital physician to determine a person's level of danger to self or others due to a mental disorder. Patients are discharge by Probate Court after early examination (3-5 days) or after Court Hearing (within 15 days) when a person no long needs involuntary inpatient care.  Otherwise, patient and treatment team work on the discharge plan and its timing. Families pickup patients upon discharge. The Social Worker works with the patient, family and Mental Health Centers and makes a follow up appointment for a few days to a week after discharge from Harris Hospital.  Aftercare appointments are made with the local Community Mental Health Centers, the Drug and Alcohol Commission, a VA Outpatient Clinic, or a preferred private provider.
