Activity Therapy Services is currently comprised of therapists in the fields of Recreation and Music Therapies (4 Recreation Therapists; 3 Music Therapists) who conduct goal-oriented therapeutic groups, participate as members of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, a assess/document on patient progress.   

*  
Level I therapist conduct 10 hours of therapy groups per week
Level II therapists conduct 12 hours of therapy groups per week
   
A variety of groups are offered to patients, based on clinical needs (Independent Living Skills, Music Therapy, Gardening, Relaxation, Aerobics, Weight Lifting, Life Mgmt., Leisure Planning, Sports, Crafts, Community Re-Integration).   

*   In addition to groups, patients also have opportunities to attend field trips (movies, fairs, museums, community library).  

Leisure programming is provided in the evenings and on weekends, by staff holding degrees in Physical Education.   In addition to providing leisure programming, the Recreation Specialists conduct hospital-wide, monthly special events for patients (volleyball tournaments, dances, carnivals, super BINGO, field days).  
INTERNSHIPS

Internships are offered in the fields of Recreation Therapy (10 – 15 weeks), and Music Therapy (6 mos.)  
PET THERAPY ....... Doc, a  five year old AKC  yellow Labrador retriever, who celebrates a birthday March 17, plays an active part in patient therapy.  Doc's workday consist of attending patient groups ,visits with patients on the units and staff offies.. Doc has attended Basic Obedience Training at Dog Obedience of Greenville, SC. 
Doc is maintained by Activity Therapy staff. 

In October each year
 the A.T. Department sponsors its Annual Staff Talent show and Costume Contest, presented for patients around Halloween.  

In December each year
the A.T. Department serenades both patients and staff, by caroling throughout the hospital.
