Team HPH ... Making Improvements Toward WELLNESS - ONE Stride at a Time! Runners and walkers welcome!
Whether or not you are healthy, TeamHPH is for those who desire to improve their health or maintain it. Bottom line is that doing nothing will only make matters worse. It's not too late to set your fitness goals, short term and long term. It makes sense to take care of yourself, if we claim to be in support of healthcare, right? Of course! And not only that, it's fun getting together with co-workers who desire to maintain or improve their health.
The most important step along this journey is the first one ... decide to do something.
In late 2007, Bob Bowers, Director of Nutritional Services decided for several reasons to do something. "I needed to become more active", Bowers said. A Registered Dietitian, husband to his lovely wife, Ramona, a father of three great kids ... Bowers realized if he didn't do something soon, he would become too out of shape to set the right example for his kids.
With his son, Tate, deciding to try cross country, Bowers realized what a neat opportunity it would be to keep the communication lines open with his then 14 year old son, Tate. "Ramona & I took Tate & Emily, our son and our youngest daughter to cheer them on as they ran in the Firecracker Frolic 5K Road Race in Easley on July 4, 2007. They were having so much fun completing the 3.1 miles in a little over 23 minutes that it inspired me to enter some races, too." Bowers ran in the Springwater Festival 5K with his son, Tate and the Lauren's Hope 5K with his daughter, Emily. In 2008, Bowers ran in 10 races, including the RUN DOWNTOWN 5K.
