The AnMed Health Blood Center provides both stationary and Mobile Blood Unit collection to provide for the transfusion needs of its customers. Approximately 12,000 whole blood units and 750 platelet apheresis products are collected each year. From these whole blood units, 35,000 different blood products are prepared for transfusion. The Blood Center is supported by donations from area industries, small business, schools, churches and civic organizations.
The AnMed Health Blood Center is located at 600 North Fant Street on the AnMed Health Medical Center campus. The Center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month.

Why does AnMed hospital need my blood donation?
Your donation can mean the difference between life and death for a patient. Different patients require different amounts of blood. At AnMed Health Medical Center, an average of 50 units of blood are used daily. But on occasion, a single patient has consumed more than 40 units of blood. It is rare that blood is given as whole blood. It is normally broken down into components:
Red cells are used for accident victims and surgery patients. Platelets are used for treatment of cancer, leukemia, and aplastic anemia, as well as open heart surgery and other treatments. Plasma is used for shock and burn victims
Cryoprecipitated, AHF, (cryo) is used for patients with bleeding diseases like hemophilia
